How do I change the Minecraft or Java version?
Choose a compatible version, back up, then reinstall or switch the Java version.
The Version page groups the Minecraft version and, for compatible server templates (eggs), the Java version. A wrong combination often causes an immediate shutdown.
Step-by-step procedure
-
Create a backup
Back up the world and configurations before any version change.
-
Check compatibility
Check the versions supported by the server template, the plugins or the modpack.
-
Choose the version
Open Version, select the target version, then confirm. The panel chooses the suitable Java image when this feature is available.
-
Read the logs
After restarting, look for the “Unsupported class version” error, an incompatible plugin or a world created by a newer version.
Risky rollback
Opening a recent world with an older version may delete or corrupt data.
