How do I install a Minecraft plugin?
Download a compatible JAR file, upload it to the plugins folder and check that it loads.
The plugins work with Paper, Purpur and Bukkit/Spigot compatible software. They are not placed in the mods folder.
Step-by-step procedure
-
Check the software
Make sure the server uses Paper or Purpur and that the plugin supports your Minecraft version.
-
Stop the server
A clean shutdown prevents a file from being read while it is being transferred.
-
Import the JAR
Open Plugins or Files, then send the .jar file to /plugins.
-
Restart and read the console
The plugin creates its configuration folder on first startup. Fix any missing dependencies reported in the logs.
-
Configure
Edit the generated YAML or JSON files, then use the plugin's reload command only if its documentation allows it.
Quick check
- Reliable plugin source
- Compatible version
- Installed dependencies
- Backup available
