Unable to join Minecraft: timeout, connection refused, or incompatible version
Check status, address, port, version and whitelist in the correct order.
These messages do not have the same cause. Connection refused generally indicates that no process is listening, while a timeout points to the network or the firewall.
Step-by-step procedure
-
Check console
Wait for the Done message and make sure the service remains online after startup.
-
Copy panel address
Use the displayed address and port. Do not use the SFTP port.
-
Align version
Client, proxy and server must accept the same version unless a compatibility plugin is configured.
-
Check restrictions
Check the whitelist, bans and player limit before opening a network ticket.
